Terms of Service

The master agreement covering account rules, AI-generated content, liability, and how AncestLore may be used.

Welcome to AncestLore. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the AncestLore website, mobile experiences, AI features, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.

1. Who can use AncestLore

You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to create an account. You agree to provide accurate information and keep your account credentials secure.

2. Your responsibilities

  • You will only upload materials you own or are legally allowed to upload.
  • You will respect the privacy and dignity of every person represented in those materials, whether living or deceased.
  • You will not use AncestLore to harass, deceive, defame, defraud, or harm anyone.
  • You are responsible for everything that happens through your account.

3. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, videos, documents, voice recordings, messages, and stories you upload ("Your Content"). You grant AncestLore a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, transcribe, transform, summarise, and present Your Content for the purpose of operating the Service for you โ€” including generating Memory Conversations, narrations, films, books, and other outputs you ask us to create.

4. AI-generated content

AncestLore uses artificial intelligence to generate conversations, narrations, summaries, image enhancements, films, and books from the materials you provide. AI outputs are estimates based on the information available to us. They may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or assumptions. They are not statements of fact, and they are not the actual words, thoughts, beliefs, or feelings of any real person.

5. Prohibited uses

  • Impersonating a living person without their explicit consent.
  • Creating voice clones or likenesses of anyone you do not have authority over.
  • Creating sexual, violent, defamatory, harassing, or extremist content.
  • Any content that sexualises a minor, depicts or glorifies sexual violence, incites hatred or extremism against a group, or plans serious illegal acts.
  • Using outputs as fabricated evidence in legal, financial, or insurance matters.
  • Attempting to bypass safety systems, scrape the Service, or reverse engineer our models.

5a. Safety monitoring & human review

To keep members safe, AncestLore runs automated safety classifiers over messages exchanged inside the Service (including Memory Conversations, family group chats and messenger features). When a message is auto-flagged for self-harm intent, threats of harm to another person, sexual content involving a minor, sexual violence, hate speech or extremism, or the planning of serious illegal acts, the flagged message and a short window of surrounding conversation may be reviewed by a small number of authorised AncestLore staff for the sole purpose of safeguarding. We do not browse private conversations at will โ€” only flagged content is surfaced for human review. Where there is a credible risk to life or a legal obligation to do so, we may contact emergency services, safeguarding authorities or law enforcement, and may suspend or terminate accounts involved. Ordinary grief, sadness, anger, swearing or adult conversation between consenting adults is not flagged and is not reviewed.

6. Disclaimers

AncestLore is provided "as is" for remembrance, storytelling, reflection, memory preservation, and legacy creation. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychiatric, psychological, legal, financial, or emergency services. If you are in crisis, please contact local emergency services.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AncestLore and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including emotional distress caused by AI-generated outputs.

8. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the Data Deletion page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, harm other users, or expose AncestLore to legal risk.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where AncestLore is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction unless local consumer law requires otherwise.

This document is provided in good faith to help users understand how AncestLore works. It is plain-English summary text and does not substitute professional legal advice. The most current version published on AncestLore.com always applies.
